Synopsis
The author grew up and lived in East Africa, surrounded by simple native herders whose customs closely resemble those of their counterparts in the Middle East. Secondly, as a young man, the author actually made his livelihood as a sheep owner and rancher. Consequently, he writes as one who had had firsthand experience with every phase of sheep management. Later, as a lay pastor of a community church, he shared the truths of this Psalm, as a shepherd, with his "flock", every Sunday for several months. This experience has given Phillip Keller special insights into this beloved Psalm.
